A one-source contractor for hygienic floors

When you need to repair or replace your floor in the main production area it would be helpful if you could contact a company that can provide you with everything from laying the concrete slab to providing the finished floor, including advice on which floor is the most suitable to lay, advice on stainless steel drains and kerbs as well as wall and ceiling solutions.

Kemtile is one such company that has all these qualifications and is a multi-disciplined company that has been installing and repairing floors in the food and beverage industry for over 30 years. A spokesman for the company commented “we understand the design of floors and the specific needs/requirements of the food/beverage industry. We continue to work for almost every major food and drinks brand on either new build or refurbishment projects as well as many small specialist producers”
This understanding is the core of the company’s philosophy and there are many instances where the company has been asked to work and install floors while production continues 24/7 which can sometimes be the only time that work can be completed or during unsociable hours or shut down periods.
Hygienic floors can be either resin or ceramic. The heavy duty resin floor can be laid directly to the installed structural concrete or onto a suitable underlayment screed. In either case the floors can be installed flat or more suitably to “falls” for drainage. Heavy duty resin floors are designed to be hard wearing, provide both chemical and shock resistance and have a slip-resistant surface which complies with The Health and Safety Executives –Food Document number 22/slips and trips in the food industry. For specific areas an anti-static version is available where powder mixing or chemicals are stored.
Recent developments include a fast cure resin floor that can be returned to service after just 5 hours cure at 10ºC. One area where Ucrete Fast meets food manufacturers expectations is

the fact that it is solvent free and non-tainting during application so any production areas close by can continue uninterrupted with no special ventilation requirements and finally it is moisture and low temperature tolerant, which means that areas that are cold and difficult to dry can be laid with Ucrete Fast.
Kemtile install ceramic tiled floors using the Kagetec sonic vibration method for installation which includes the bedding screed, adhesive and tile to provide a durable floor finish. Argelith tiles provide the ideal floor for the food, beverage or pharmaceutical industries.
Where there are areas where spillages occur and drainage is required, Wiedemann stainless steel drainage channels compliment their flooring systems. Kemtile have worked with Wiedemann for over 20 years and have found that its range and quality is far superior to other drainage systems.
As part of their one stop approach to the food industry they can also protect walls and ceilings using Protectorseal, which is a reinforced fibreglass lining system. Protectorseal incorporates various layers of resin and fibreglass which produces a seamless hygienic walling system for all types of walls including existing ceramic tiles, brick and block walls. As the system is applied and bonded directly to the existing wall surface it excludes any air pockets and gaps that could support bacterial growth. Protectorseal can be applied to any surface and is clean and grease free; resistant to impact and chemicals; is able to withstand hostile environments and has a fire rating of Class 1 on a Class 0 substrate. It is also virtually maintenance free with a long life span.
