New Kagetec floors for premium dessert firm
Kemtile has recently completed one of its Kagetec ceramic floor tiling projects for premium desserts manufacturer, Rhokett.
It is the second flooring installation that Kemtile has carried out for Rhokett, whose customers include M&S, Waitrose, Pret and J. Sainsbury. This most recent project was at the company's third manufacturing site in Cranbrook, Kent.
For this latest project, Kemtile installed 1000m2 of its unique Kagetec BS ceramic floor tiling system, which incorporates a special bedding screed laid either flat or to falls. A special adhesive slurry was then applied to the wet screed and Argelith MVTec tiles were placed into the adhesive and ultrasonically vibrated into place. Once the tiles set, they were mechanically grouted with a high grade epoxy resin.
Ultrasonic vibration is a state-of-the-art process which eliminates any air voids from under the tiles, providing a very robust flooring system. It's a method utilised by very few installers and has become a hallmark of Kemtile's quality service.
The finished floor provides Rhokett, with a durable, high-quality tiled floor finish that was hygienic, cleanable and slip resistant.
Kemtile also supplied and installed 14 individual Wiedemann-Technik stainless steel drainage gullies. With their single piece construction, they were specified for their excellent quality, durability and hygiene standards.
Rhokett's expansion into an additional manufacturing plant, which is located next to its second factory, will enable the company to double capacity and increase output of its own range of branded cheesecakes and own label bespoke desserts.
With the support of Michelin-star chef Gary Rhodes, Rhokett launched in 2002 and now boasts some of the UK's most renowned quality retailers and eateries as customers.
With an annual growth of more than 20%, which is forecast to increase to over £15 million this year, the flooring system had to support the most stringent food hygiene standards, including BRC Standards in food safety. It also had to provide maximum durability, slip resistance, performance and longevity.
Alan Huelin, Special Projects Director at Rhokett, said: "Kemtile installed heavy duty UCRETE polyurethane resin flooring at our second manufacturing plant so we were happy to work with them again as we further expand our business.
"The quality of its product and experience of its team, from specification through to aftercare, has again been second to none. We have ambitious growth plans and made a significant investment into this new facility. It is therefore crucial that the flooring solution is able to support the business now and in the future.
"In fact, we are so impressed with the new plant flooring that we are now showcasing it as best practice to current potential suppliers, indicating how we would like them to design their factories."
Kemtile's David Priest said: "Over a two-month period, one of our specialist Kagetec installation teams laid in excess of 100,000 hexagonal tiles to provide the very best foundations on which Rhokett can continue to expand its business.
"In just 15 years it has experienced phenomenal growth, and the most enviable customer base, and we are once again delighted to support them with their ambitious plans for the future."
ISD Solutions, the UK's leading contractor in composite panel construction and cladding projects, worked alongside Kemtile on the project. Under the contract, ISD Solutions' Coldstore division was responsible for the design and ground floor fit out of the new warehouse, incorporating manufacturing and food preparation rooms, as well as cleaning, wash-down and lobby areas.
