Kemtile partners with pharmaceutical giant on second major flooring project

Kemtile has further strengthened its presence within the global pharma and healthcare market by completing an extensive floor, wall and ceiling refurbishment of a washroom for a leading pharmaceutical company.

It's the latest project that Kemtile, a division of Stonard has completed within the sector, and the second for this particular client. It joins AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Reckitt in the company's impressive client portfolio in this sector.

Kemtile's Simon Bates said: "Following a detailed inspection and survey of the existing floor which included taking "cores", it was clear that some of the existing flooring was no longer fit for purpose and needed to be completely removed and replaced.

"As is the case in most pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, time is of the essence, so if there is a need to shut down an area it can be very costly and lead to lost production time. With the unique materials we used on the project and the experience of our installation teams, we were able to complete the works in less than the time allocated. As the company was a repeat customer, they knew the project could be turned around quickly and effectively."

Kemtile specified and installed a Stonclad UT, a pharma-grade, heavy duty polyurethane floor finish in the site's main washroom. The Stonclad UT was installed using two different grades of slip resistance that best suited both the wet and dry spaces. The two textures each provided excellent slip-resistance across wet and dry areas, which is a key consideration in washrooms.

In addition to the floors in the area, the walls and ceiling were also refurbished by the installation of Protectorseal, our seamless wall and ceiling protection system. Protectrseal, provides additional protection in hygiene sensitive areas to walls and ceilings where a high quality steam cleanable finish is required to maintain sterile conditions. Amongst its many benefits, it's also exceptionally durable, will minimise bacterial growth and can be applied to virtually any surface. The system is completely "seamless" so there are no joins or seams that can fail or harbour bacteria, and a class "O" spread of flame adds to the product's credentials.

Simon Bates continues: "We have a well established reputation in the UK pharma sector through Kemtile and globally via our association with Stonhard. We bring an understanding of the sector, quality products and installation, 40 years of knowhow and all the necessary accreditations to work in such specialist environments. We look forward to supporting existing and new pharma clients in the future."
