Kemtile appointed as a 'single source' flooring supplier for leading pharma company
Kemtile continues to enhance its presence within the global pharma and healthcare market by completing the design and installation of a new flooring solution for a packing line of a top pharmaceutical facility in Hertfordshire.
Kemtile was selected because of its association with Stonhard and its ability to install Stonhard flooring systems here in the UK. On this particular project, there were some inherent problems and the team was able to provide the right flooring system for that area. Stonhard floors were the preferred choice because of their exceptional performance in the original building over the last 10 years.
The project follows a number of others in the pharmaceutical industry for Kemtile, who worked on this 500m² installation on this particular site which operates globally in R&D, manufacturing, distribution and marketing, with a strong focus on prescription medicines. This installation joins AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Reckitt in the company's impressive and ever growing client portfolio in this sector.
Kemtile's Simon Bates said: "Following a detailed inspection and survey of the existing concrete floor it was clear that it wasn't in a good enough condition to accept a new pharma grade resin floor finish and serious remedial works would be required to provide a long term solution.
"As is the case in most pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, time is of the essence, so if there is a need to shut down an area it can be very costly and lead to lost production time. With the unique Stonhard materials we used on the project and the experience of our installation teams, we were able to complete the works in less than the time allocated."
The new area was an existing building but it had never been commissioned, so when Kemtile inspected the existing floor it was discovered that the existing concrete floor slab was badly cracked. To avoid these cracks from interfering with the new floor finish, it was proposed to treat the whole floor area with Stonproof RH7, a fabric reinforced crack bridging membrane .
The use of the Stonproof RH7 in conjunction with our Stonclad GS/HT4 high performance epoxy floor screed provided an extremely hard wearing floor surface but also with the ability to resist any future cracking and a long lived floor with the ability to withstand frequent, heavy traffic. The facility had already used Stonclad GS on a previous project 10 years earlier along with Stonshield ESD and Stonkote AT5 in sensitive explosion risk areas.
Stonclad GS is a high-performance epoxy system cured to an extremely hard, impact-resistant mortar and offers the benefits of abrasion, wear and chemical resistance. The Stonclad GS epoxy resin was then finished with Stonkote HT4, a chemically resistant and hard wearing epoxy topcoat with a texture 2 surface profile for slip resistance, which makes it particularly suitable for this processing environment.
Simon Bates continues: "We have a well established reputation in the UK pharma sector through Kemtile and globally via our association with Stonhard. We bring an understanding of the sector, quality products and installation, 40 years of knowhow and all the necessary accreditations to work in such specialist environments. We look forward to supporting existing and new pharma clients in the future."
