Top biscuit manufacturer selects Kemtile for a new technical flooring solution
Single source industrial flooring specialist Kemtile has been involved in a large project for a leading biscuit company to provide a new long term hygienic flooring solution.
The previous floor installed was very old and needed upgrading in line with new HACCP accreditation. After looking at other companies and considering their proposals, it felt that Kemtile had offered the best technical solution with regards to a flooring system that would not discolour, was hard-wearing and had HACCP accreditation.
During the six-month project, the Kemtile team erected screens and barriers before removing the old floor and screed. When the old floor had been removed, it was found that the existing suspended substrate was heavily cracked. As this was a concern, Kemtile proposed the use of its Stonproof RH7 waterproofing and crack bridging membrane. The exposed substrate was then mechanically prepared and the Stonproof RH7, installed. The Stonproof RH7 gave customer confidence that the cracks would not follow through into the new floor finish.
After installation of the Stonproof the floor levels were made up with our Stonset TG4 epoxy grout (50mm), which was then overlaid with our Stonclad GS heavy duty epoxy floor screed (6mm) and Stonkote HT4 texture to a designated RAL colour. The team was also required to introduce new expansion joints in certain points to allow for movement within the suspended floor structure for when it was loaded with stock etc. These joints were sealed with Stonflex MP7, a flexible and chemical-resistant expansion joint sealant.
Speaking on the project, Kemtile's George Morton said: "Following a detailed inspection and survey of the existing tiled floor, we offered a technical solution that showcased Stonhard's extensive experience and product range and took the customer through the whole process.
"As is the case in most food manufacturing facilities, time is of the essence, so if there is a need to shut down an area it can be very costly and lead to lost production time. Our flexibility, agility and attention to detail certainly helped make us the flooring partner of choice. From design to installation, groundworks and civils to aftercare, we're a real one-stop-shop and our customers love and appreciate the benefits that this brings. We're here to manage the product from end to end, so they don't have to."
