Kemtile has become a key partner at a global defence, aerospace and security organisation which employs over 83,000 people in over 40 countries with a turnover of £16.6 billion last year, following a successful partnership in 2003/4.
The aerospace organisation required a floor to be fitted at one of its aerospace facilities capable of withstanding extremely heavy composite aeroplane wings which are moved on steel jigs with narrow steel wheels, creating huge pressures on the floor. The entire area to be covered amounted to 4,000m2, and areas undergoing work had to be protected with a dust-proof tent to avoid contamination of sensitive manufacturing areas. The aerospace organisation also stipulated that all work undertaken should carry an extensive guarantee.
What we did
Following the successful installation of a number of floor sections in 2003/4 using UCRETE FL underlayment screed and UCRETE MF smooth heavy duty polyurethane screed, the aerospace organisation approached Kemtile four years ago to install further UCRETE FL and MF floors. Working under a dust-proof tent to prevent contamination of manufacturing areas, Kemtile used an electric road planer to remove the existing floor finishes, before installing the new hard wearing floor. Kemtile addressed BAE’s insistence on an extensive guarantee by working closely with BASF on the specification for the flooring and providing a 10-year insurance backed warranty through FeRFA, with every phase of the work in the four-year project covered.
Stephen Westley, Director at Kemtile, said of the challenging project: “All work on this project was carried out through site contractor T Clarke, and the relationship we have with them is so strong that we have worked in partnership with them on other projects, including a chemical etching plant and a new facility where 3D printers are used to produce aero parts.”
