As it increases its production capabilities, Forresters Chicken has asked Kemtile to return to its Cheshire poultry processing facility to design and install a hygienic flooring solution for its plant extension. So satisfied was the client with the job, it then asked Kemtile to complete another project on-site – taking the total area to 300m2.
Forresters Chicken, Frodsham
Established in 1972, Forresters produces over 60 tonnes of roasted, steamed and marinated Red Tractor-assured chicken portions each day, which is sold to retail and foodservice customers. The company also sources premium raw chicken fillets and supplies cooked chicken breaded pieces to catering butchers and wholesale customers, as well as having an on-site factory shop.
Kemtile's flooring solution
For this latest project, Kemtile installed 300m2 of Stonclad UF. Able to be laid in a day without primer if required - allowing installation to be fast-tracked and busy areas back into service as quickly as possible - this polyurethane mortar system is a popular specification choice within the food and beverage industry. Forresters was so pleased with the initial 100m2 extension project, Kemtile was asked to install a further 200 m2 of Stonclad UF to the packing hall. This flooring solution also offers resistance to chemicals and high temperatures - both of which are key considerations for hygienic flooring solutions for these particular food processes.
Slip-resistant hard-wearing floors
The areas where Kemtile installed the Stonhard flooring system include a thoroughfare through which chickens are transported on large, hot heavy racks to and from ovens. Here, it’s also essential that all flooring is slip-resistant as the areas of often wet and slippery. And because floors are washed regularly to prevent the growth of bacteria, this flooring solution needs to be able to withstand scrubbing, chemical detergents and high-pressure, high temperature water.
Over three days, Kemtile trowel applied some 100m2 of the high-performance Stonclad UF polyurethane floor screed in blue and green colourways. It’s exceptionally hard-wearing, textured and has an unsealed self-priming surface, which makes it ideal for quick installations to minimize down-time.
Long term working relationship
Stonclad UF is the very latest addition to the world-renowned 11-strong Stonhard Stonclad range, which is a global flooring system of choice across many manufacturing and processing industries.
Angus Dilliway-Parry, Operations Director at Forresters Chicken, said: “We enjoy a long-term working relationship with Kemtile and have always been very satisfied with their project specifications and installations, as well as the aftercare advice and services they provide. “When the business was smaller, we used to install our own flooring but, as we grew, it soon became apparent that we need to place a greater focus on them. The stakes became much higher – with the impact of having to close down production for repairs being more costly and inconvenient as our production output increased. We simply had to invest in a top-quality flooring and Kemtile ticked all of our boxes.”
