GCL Food Ingredients
When GCL Food Ingredients decided to build a new pasta and meat processing plant at its Nottingham-facility, Kemtile was asked to provide a flooring specification that would conform with to their requirements and be in keeping with their existing floors in terms of surface texture and colour.
Kemtile’s proposals included the installation of a heavy duty SBR Co-Polymer underlayment floor screed to provide graded “falls” to the new stainless steel drains. After the underlayment had cured, B.A.S.F Ucrete HPQ a decorative, slip resistant polyurethane floor topping at 6mm thick was installed to the complete 1800m2 area over two floors.
The Ucrete HPQ was installed in red and green custom colours to provide designation between High Care and Low Care production Areas. Because the colours were bespoke, sample pots of each shade were commissioned during the discussion process, enabling GCL Food Ingredients to evaluate and approve the final colour mix before installation.
B.A.S.F Ucrete HPQ provides a decorative, slip resistant floor finish that’s ideal for food processing areas where a more decorative appearance is required. Being part of the B.A.S.F polyurethane flooring range, it also offers the added benefits of being quick cure and non-taint. Two clear top coats are available for the system epoxy if a gloss finish is required or polyurethane for a satin finish. In the case of GCL Food Ingredients, the epoxy was chosen.
Salvatore Devivo, Managing Director at GCL Food Ingredients, said: “We found that Kemtile’s knowledge, consultancy, expertise, workmanship and quality of products used were all excellent – from specification right through to aftercare.
“These factors helped make our specification decision very straightforward. From experience, we could have only possibly partnered with Kemtile.
“This site expansion further strengthens our position as the first choice supply partner for major food manufacturers and brand leading retailers. As our reputation for supplying high quality Italian and continental food products continues to grow, so must our food processing capabilities and facilities.”
David Priest of Kemtile said: “I have known GCL Food Ingredients personnel for over 15 years and it was great to re-establish the relationship on his project. It brought to light a whole host of challenges and opportunities that enabled us to showcase our end-to-end project capabilities, bespoke approach, top quality products and craftsmanship. “It goes without saying that Kemtile was delighted to meet GCL Food Ingredients’ specific flooring requirements in terms of performance, policy and aesthetics, as they continue to strengthen their presence within the UK food processing sector.”
