Kemtile supports growth of Grassroots foods with Kagetec ceramic flooring solution
Kemtile installers of food grade hygienic flooring and drainage was appointed by meat supplier Grassroots Foods to supply and fit out its new East Lancashire processing plant.
This is the latest project to add to Kemtile’s already impressive meat processing industry credentials.
Over a ten week period, one of the company’s installation teams laid almost 1700m2 or over 170,000 ceramic tiles using the unique Kagetec sonic vibration method. They also supplied 21 Wiedemann-Technik stainless steel drainage gullies.
Grassroots Foods’ new facility combines highly skilled traditional British butchery with the latest manufacturing technology and processes. Operating seven days a week, 100 staff produce 150 tonnes of quality product every day.
As one of the UK’s fastest growing suppliers of beef, pork, chicken and lamb, the new premises will facilitate increased output and capabilities for retail own label, e-commerce pick and pack, foodservice and catering customers across the UK.
To achieve its growth plans, the flooring system had to support the most stringent food hygiene standards including BRC Standards in food safety, as well as looking impressive to current and prospective customers. It also had to provide maximum durability, slip resistance, performance and longevity.
What we did
Kemtile recommended the Kagetec BS vibration tiling system, which uses 18mm thick Argelith MV-Tech hexagonal ceramic floor tiles. Made from fully vitrified porcelain, they offer maximum hygiene and durability. When combined with the installation method - when the bed and tile are laid at the same time - it is one of the most durable floor systems available. It also provides the additional benefit of quick installation as there is no need to wait for screeds to cure.
The Kagetec system is also capable of withstanding thermal, mechanical and chemical stresses. Aside from cleaning, it requires no maintenance so provides the long-term flooring solution Grassroots Foods required to realise its growth ambitions. Wiedemann-Technik gullies with their single piece construction with integral debris basket and foul air trap were chosen for their excellent quality, durability and hygiene standards.
