Key considerations for a ready meals processing plant floor
The floor of a ready meals processing plant must be easy to clean and therefore impervious. Plain concrete floors cannot be classified as hygienic and can create dust that enters the atmosphere.
In the meal preparation evironment, liquids, oils and other ingredients are frequently spilt on the floor, so the floor must also be slip resistant.
As some ingredients and cleaning chemicals used in meal preparation plants can attack concrete, all hygienic floor surfaces must provide this important level of protection to avoid potentially costly remedial works.
The floors in ready-meal preparation plants can be subject to extremes of heat and need to be chosen to be thermal shock resistant. They must also be extremely durable and impact resistant.
Correct drainage plays a major part of any hygienic floor installation and should be carefully considered at start of the specification and design process. Drainage systems for ready-meal plants should be made of stainless steel for maximum hygiene and cleanability.
