Derek Curtin, Business Development Manager

Derek has over 40 years’ experience in the Scottish construction industry - starting out with Marley Concrete in Carluke. During his impressive career, he has completed several professional qualifications including a Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) diploma and a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Management and Leadership.

Derek joined Kemtile from BASF where he worked on its Master Builder Solutions brand - specifically Ucrete. It’s here that his relationship with Kemtile first began – it’s the world’s longest serving Ucrete applicator – and in May 2017, Derek joined the team on a permanent basis. Derek’s role is to further establish and grow Kemtile’s service offering in Scotland. Working with his established and impressive industry contacts he’s amassed over the last four decades, Derek is responsible for promoting the Kemtile service offering to the country’s food, beverage and pharma companies, whilst helping to expand the number of the company’s expert installation teams across the country.

His favourite Kemtile project is for Pure Malt Products, in Haddington, East Lothian. This company produces an extensive range of malt extracts and appointed Kemtile to install an entire flooring solution within their existing plant over. Over an area of approximately 170m2, we installed a Kagetec ceramic tiling system, BASF Ucrete resin floor and a bespoke stainless-steel drainage system from Wiedemann-Technik

Derek coordinated progress between Kemtile’s in-house technical department and his client’s engineering division - ensuring that all product performance demands were met. This resulted in a highly positive outcome – such a success, in fact, that Pure Malt Products is now used to showcase the Kemtile offering to prospective clients and architects.

Why did Derek decide to join the Kemtile team? “I’ve always thoughts Kemtile was a first-class company. I never once saw them cut corners or not deliver on time, first time, and this is very important to me. It means that I’m confidently able to sell its excellent products and services to the many great contacts I’ve made during my career.”
